Journal: A Little Breakfast and a Little Elvis

Elvis Presley Birthplace

After a good night’s sleep and a little breakfast, it was time to go find Elvis Aaron Presley’s first home — and then get on down the road to Florence, Alabama.

I was the first person to crack open the door to the visitor’s center at the Elvis Birthplace this morning, as the ladies were about to go unlock and staff the various spots, and it was not long before I was standing in front of the tiny two room house where the King of Rock ‘n Roll was born.

It was wonderful to get here early and have it all to myself.

This was a pretty amazing stop, as far as I am concerned. It was wonderful to have a chance to see where this musician started his life, and I’ll have much more to say when I go on to write a full article.

In addition to the birthplace, they have the church the Presley family attended (moved from its original location), a very small museum, and a chapel that plays Presley’s gospel music.

The museum showcases some of Elvis’s clothes along with other memorabilia. Photograph, Ann Fisher.

Time to head to The Shoals area (Florence, Sheffield, Tuscumbia, and Muscle Shoals) of Alabama!

I’m currently on the road on my way to Huntsville, Alabama, and this is one of the daily (or nearly daily ? ), short posts along the way.

Journal entries are just that — quick, in the moment, on the road posts — rough, barely edited, and on the go. Look for finished articles everywhere else on my blog!

🙂 — he changed American music. And — thank you for the spelling catch.
