Journal: Headed to the New Celebrity Edge for a New Year’s Cruise. I Think . . .

I am on my way to Ft. Lauderdale to join friends on a New Year’s Eve cruise on Celebrity’s brand-new ship, the Edge. I’m excited. A breakthrough in large cruise ship design, and seven days on the Edge should be fantastic.

Everything ran super-smoothly until I reached Terminal A at Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston. No line at the Delta counter, and I thought, “Hhm. Busy travel weekend post-Christmas. This is too good to be true.”

Yes. Yes, it was.

“Ms. Fisher, your flight to Atlanta has been delayed. But you should still make your connection to Ft. Lauderdale — since you had a long layover in Atlanta.”

“How long is the delay?”

“An hour.”

“Well, that’s not too bad. Glad I chose a three-hour layover when I picked my flights.”

I whisked through security — no line. Like the quietest time I’ve EVER had in a security line anywhere, anytime. And then I looked at the flight information screens. The one hour delay had turned into a two hour delay.

Oh . . . not great, but I should still make the connection.

So — I settled in at the Breakfast Klub — the airport version of the beloved Houston breakfast spot near downtown, and ordered the Wings and Waffles. What a sinful, evil, wonderful, yummy thing 🙂 .

Post breakfast, I did a little Hudson News rambling, bought a copy of the Time Magazine with Jamal Khashoggi, and settled into a chair near an electrical outlet.

As of 9:42 a.m. CST, my originally scheduled departure, my flight is now 2.5 hours delayed. Which means, if it doesn’t get any worse, I’ll be making a 30 dash to the connection in Atlanta’s Hartsfield Jackson airport.

Glad I’m wearing my sneakers.

At least the cruise doesn’t leave until tomorrow. So at this point, I’m hoping to get into Ft. Lauderdale sometime this evening.

I hope my suitcase makes it. Otherwise, I’ll be doing intensive shopping onboard the Celebrity Edge.

Ah, well. It makes travel interesting.

I’ll let you know how it all goes 🙂 .

I just love flight delays. What about you 🙂 ?

Journal entries are just that — quick, in the moment, on the road posts — rough, barely edited, and on the go. Look for finished articles everywhere else on my blog!
