Journal: Made it to Vicksburg, Mississippi

Back to the open road!

I was up early — and got on the road a little after 7:00 a.m.  Lucca and Marius are NEVER happy about this, but I’m blessed to have a good friend who has a pet sitting business, and I know Trish is taking care of my boys.

Lucca and Marius give me the big cat eyes. They know what the suitcase means. Photograph, Ann Fisher.

My route took me off of the interstate, shortly after Lake Charles, Louisiana, on blue highways angling up towards Vicksburg . Had some of the most amazing fried chicken I’ve eaten in a long time at a gas station in — I’m not sure where 🙂 . Was road-stupid by that time.

Favorite town name of today? Waterproof, Louisiana.

I’m well settled into my comfortable room at Duff Green Mansion, and following this quick post, I’m off to find supper!

The “Journal” is a new category of post for the blog —  quick, in the moment — a few lines, a couple of pictures, a little video — a real trip journal.

Note: for the reader who has a hard time believing Waterproof exists, here is its little Wikipedia page 🙂 : Waterproof, Louisiana.

I loved visiting Vicksburg! Such a cool place and the history is just fascinating. So funny, I though you header photo looked familiar, I too was at Duff Green. Is that the Inn with the canon ball in the wall? I can’t recall as I visited a few places and this was a few years ago.

Beautiful home and I liked it even more when I learned more of its history in your youtube. This an area of the USA that appeals to me to visit. I have heard that folks there are kind hosts so a b&b would be my choice I think. I not sure I believe there is a town called Waterproof – what are the residents called? Gas station chicken? Is this the beginning of a new journal ; food I have tried at gas stations in the USA?

Vicksburg is definitely worth a visit — and I’m sorry to only be here for one night on a road trip. I’ll be returning! I’m headed over to the Civil War park in just a few minutes.

In answer to your question about this journal: I’ve been writing a travel blog for three years, but typically do full articles on places that I’ve been. This journal is a new experiment — truly a short, frequent posting, for a road trip I’m taking to Huntsville, Alabama. It’s also my first go at “vlogging.”
