How many of my readers know what Blog stands for?
It’s short for web log. Way back in the deep, dark distant past — 24 years ago, the very first blog was born at Swarthmore College in 1994, written by student Justin Hall. It wasn’t called a blog because the word didn’t exist. It was just an online journal on the infant Internet.
Jorn Barger coined word “blog” in 1997 — a combination of web + logging. Anyway, blogs were initially very in-the-moment. Fast forward to 2018, and what we see when we look at blogs has changed A LOT. Many are mostly pictures. Many look more like magazine articles.
I typically write polished articles for my blog, ranging from 1,500 – 3,500 words — and I often go through 80 or more revisions before I publish. I won’t quit writing those pieces, since they are the reason I love working on my blog as much as I do.
But I want to try something different, more in the moment, and as I launch out on a new road trip to Huntsville, Alabama, it seemed like a great time to try a new format.
So here we go! You’ll find these entries under the category “Journal.” 🙂
This first entry, you get 1) a road map, 2) my first awkward video log (vlog) entry with my cat photobombing me, and 3) yes, the image of the glorious model of the Apollo rocket above (don’t worry, they have a real one as well, but it’s outside — I’ll show it to you next week).
And if you caught the mistake on the video — I am leaving Wednesday. Not Monday 😉 .
