Christmas in Florence!

Buon Natale everyone, everywhere!

Christmas chocolates at the Caffe Rivoire in Florence Italy

Caffe Rivoire always has tempting chocolates in its cases. The chocolate Christmas trees taste as good as they look!

If you’re dreaming of a festive Christmas vacation, Florence fills the bill beautifully. I love this city anytime of the year, but to see the Duomo decked out with its majestic tree is a real treat.

As a digital Christmas card to all of my readers, here’s a gallery of images from my holiday trip to one of the most beautiful cities in Italy.

If you’re wanting more Italia, have a look are the two articles below, one on my Christmas trip to Florence, and the other a reading list for anyone heading to this Renaissance city.

The Duomo, Santa Maria del Fiore -- Cathedral of Florence, is magnificent at Christmas.

My Room with a View

In those winter nights next to the Duomo, life came back to me. It’s an 88 step climb to a week I now carry with me always.  Paolo opened the door of my taxi. “Ciao, Anna. Your trip was good?” He took one of my two small bags, and we mountain-goated it up the seemingly endless flights, Paolo chatting to me the whole way. [. . . .]

  1. Wow Florence is so festive during the holiday season! In Calgary we don’t see as many decorations put outdoor and over buildings. I want to spend Christmas in Europe next year!

    • Yes, it’s a pretty picture — unfortunately, it doesn’t happen very often, which is why I bought the stock photo taken in 2009 — at least we all get to SEE it that way. 🙂

Gorgeous images Ann! I love the Christmas chocolates, I actually liked the desserts in Italy best of all! And I’m so encouraged that you’ve been back to Florence many times. Sometimes we get wrapped up in counting countries and miss out on repeat Experiences in amazing cities like this! Happy holidays 🙂

    Ann:

Again, I have so enjoyed your writings…especially regarding Florence. I took Leslie (my daughter) and her friend there are couple of years ago during her high school spring break. We rented an apartment in Rome and based there…did overnight trips to Venice and Florence and stayed in hotels. The apartment in Rome was great…about a hundred meters from the top of the Spanish Steps. I found it through “Italy Perfect.” They are a great outfit run by a couple of sisters who live in Los Angeles and lived in Rome as kids when their father was officed there with General Electric. They will not rent a place unless they have stayed there! Check it out as they have branched out to some different cities as well. I enjoyed your photographs and three looked rather familiar! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

    Regards, John

    • John, thank you so much. Florence is one of my favorite places anywhere in the world. And thank you for emailing me with the link for “Italy Perfect” — always great to have a resource like that when booking an apartment!
