Let’s go! — Two of my favorite words.

I seek to strike a balance between frequent travel and luxury travel.

By mixing intermediate and luxury, I can go more often. Sometimes this means staying at a pensione or a bed and breakfast for a couple of nights and high-end hotels on other nights — all on one trip. It might mean finding an amazing apartment, taking cooking lessons, and then trying the recipes myself.

I love to travel — whether it’s with my daughter, my sister, or friends — or by myself. Solo travel is very freeing — and I always meet interesting people.

Combining Luxury Travel and Less Expensive Travel

My approach the last year or so? In 2015, I took a luxury trip to Italy, and then went camping and hiking in Big Bend National Park. Fabulous trips, very different — and they struck a balance. That’s what it’s all about for me — maximum enjoyment for my travel dollars.

I like many kinds of travel: road trips, cruises, camping, and posh city stays focused on theater and fine food. You’ll find all of those things in my blog.

In 2016, I had a very busy travel schedule. Highlights: celebrating New Year’s in New York and hitting Broadway with my daughter; a solo trip to the Inside Passage of Alaska using the Marine Highway system; long weekends at Sundance Mountain Resort; cruises in the Caribbean and the Mediterranean onboard the Royal Clipper, and then a Trans-Atlantic crossing on the Star Flyer.

Travel Plans for 2017

What’s next? This is an important year for me, as I move towards making my travel and life blog my living.

Readers who’ve followed me for awhile know I keep talking about Poland . . . it’s on the list, but not planned yet.

This summer, we’ve booked a family trip to Zambia — on safari in the Luangwa River valley with Robin Pope Safaris.

We can hardly wait! Our trip with Robin Pope Safaris is booked — will share info when we return. Photographs courtesy of Robin Pope Safaris.

Upcoming: Road Trip! Santa Fe, and afterwards, a cruise in the Caribbean on Windstar’s Wind Surf.

Then my daughter graduates from high school in May, and we’re headed to Disney World with friends to spend a little time with The Mouse.
